The Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas, A.C. (CIMAT) was founded in 1980 in the city of Guanajuato with the purpose of promoting basic research in mathematics and strengthening high-level scientific education in Mexico. Since then, it has become one of the country’s leading institutions in research in mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

CIMAT is recognized for the academic excellence of its scientific community, its specialized research output, and its active participation in national and international scientific activities through conferences, seminars, workshops, and outstanding undergraduate and graduate educational programs.

As a Public Research Center under the Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (SECIHTI), CIMAT is dedicated to the generation, transmission, and application of scientific and technological knowledge. It contributes to Mexico’s development through research, the training of highly specialized professionals, and collaboration with the public, private, and social sectors.

In addition to its main campus in Guanajuato, CIMAT has units in Aguascalientes, Mérida, Monterrey, and Zacatecas, from which it strengthens innovation, competitiveness, and scientific and technological development across different regions of the country.

Its mission is to contribute to Mexico’s scientific and technological development through excellent research, the training of specialized talent, and the application of knowledge to address strategic challenges.

Its vision is to consolidate itself as a nationally and internationally recognized research center, distinguished by its scientific excellence, social impact, and capacity for innovation.
